      • Doge’s Palace: A sprawling, gorgeous building with stunning architectural characteristics like arches, statues, and carvings, this municipal fortress was a center of European power for hundreds of years.
      • St. Mark’s Square: An elegant open-air plaza that faces the water and welcomes visitors to the city; Remarking on its graceful architecture and layout, Napoleon once called it “the drawing room of Europe.”
      • Art for the Serenissima: Inside the Doge’s Palace you’ll see paintings and sculptures by top Renaissance masters like Tintoretto, Titian, and Veronese.
      • More than a guide: These “docents,” from the Latin for “teacher,” have a Master’s or ph.D. level understanding of Venice; you’ll have plenty of chances to absorb their knowledge in your group of six guests or fewer.

      Meeting point

Please meet your guide in front of Bar Al Todaro, which is located at Piazzetta San Marco 3, on the corner of the Biblioteca Marciana, by the column topped by the statue of St. Theodore. The bar has a few entrances; please congregate next to this column.

      Helpful hints

The Doge's Palace hosts temporary exhibitions on and off throughout the year. Please note that these exhibitions, usually taking place in the Doge's apartment are not included in the itinerary of this walk.

Unless you have booked this tour privately and specifically requested the so-called "secret itineraries" of the Doges Palace, this walk will NOT include that part of the Doge's Palace. Given the complicated nature of transportation and city navigation in Venice, we suggest allowing yourselves more time than you feel necessary to arrive at the meeting point.

Please note that if you are traveling between November and March, there is a chance you will experience Venice's famous acqua alta. You might prepare yourself by bringing along rubber boots or purchasing some upon arrival to Venice.

      Getting around

Plan to walk for approximately 2 miles at a gentle pace. If your mobility is limited, this tour may be too challenging for you. This itinerary is not suitable for wheelchairs.
