      About this Venice tour

There are two ways to see Venice: from its canals, and by wandering its labyrinth of passageways. On this particular tour, you get to do both. Your GoBe guide will provide you with a unique insight to this ancient lagoon city as you discover parts of Venice that most visitors never get to see.

La Serenissima ("the most serene"), as Venice is known, is full of surprises – even for a city that looks pretty much the way it did six centuries ago. Small in size, it once dominated Europe. That legacy colors life for modern Venetians to this day – which may be why they take such care to preserve the monuments, gilded palazzos, and religious icons tucked into every corner of the 118 lagoon islands.

Explore piazzas both grandiose and humble – even the most unassuming places hold great significance in the ageless city. Pass palazzos that hold intimate histories. Cross bridges over canals and into the past, as your guide tells you of the high and the humble whose steps you walk in.

Venice is a city that displays its grandeur with open pride, but clings to its secrets like a jealous lover.

Not exactly the spark of genius

The Teatro La Fenice is an icon of Italian theatre, the site of operatic premieres by the likes of Rossini, Donizetti, and Verdi. "The Phoenix" earned its name after it burned to the ground and was rebuilt in 1774. It was destroyed by fire again in 1836, and again rebuilt. The third fire, in 1996, was deliberate – two electricians set it rather than face penalties over delays in their repair work. They spent more than six years in prison.
