About this St. Petersburg tour
Ah, the Winter Palace - it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places to visit in St. Petersburg. In fact, some rooms may have been restored to resemble how the interior looked when the Russian monarchs called it home. With its magnificent location, the palace really has no rival in the country.
The State Hermitage Museum is composed of five buildings, and lives up to its outstanding reputation with its enormous collection of Western European art including such pieces as “Dance” by Henri Matisse and “Flora” by Rembrandt. Since opening to the public in 1852, the collection has increased, particularly following thepost-revolutionary period.
Positioned on the riverside, the museum’s rooftop is graced with classical statues. Empress Elizabeth is to thank for the classic interior style, not to mention talented Baroque architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Capture snapshots of the Old Hermitage’s south end, where the New Hermitage was constructed in honor of Nicholas II.
Conclude your touring with a Russian Lunch served at one of the city’s leading restaurants.
Prepare for a Culinary Adventure in St. Petersburg
Cold winters mean that the people of Russia cook to give their body as much warmth and energy as possible. Bread, butter, potatoes, meat and vegetables are staple ingredients and you can expect to start your lunch with palatable appetizers, like salad, cabbage and gherkins. Wash it down with Medohuva (an alcoholic beverage made from honey) if you want to get a bit merry!
Pick-up is included from select hotels. Please specify your hotel name and location during check-out.
The Hermitage has limited interior seating and no air conditioning. Large bags, umbrellas and heavy coats must be checked prior to entering the museum. The museum may change expositions or close some halls without notice.
Flash photos are usually not permitted in areas displaying paintings. Hermitage Museum is closed on Mondays.
Travelers must walk approximately 1 mile over various surfaces with some steps and inclines. Wheelchair users can join the tour as long as they are able to manage vehicle steps and are accompanied by an able bodied companion to assist with stairs.
