Meet a Local in Edinburgh - Private Tour

      Edinburgh, Scotland
From (USD) $336 Per Guide (Maximum 6 Guests)
      • More than a guide: Even by GoBe standards, your tour leader is special. Known as a "docent" (from the Latin for teacher), this Ph.D. and M.A.-level scholar-guide will make the difference between seeing Edinburgh and understanding it.
      • It's personal: This experience is all about you and your gang. Choose a departure time and customize a walk that's in step with your passions. Set a pace that works for your small group (up to 6); even tour length can be flexible.
      • We come to you: Your docent will arrive at the hotel or apartment where you're staying and start out by getting you familiar with your neighborhood – its landmarks, history, nearby transport options, restaurants, markets, whisky pubs, and more.
      • Experience more Edinburgh: This tailor-made intro will help you make the most of your time in town. You'll walk away with advice on local customs, recommendations for dining, shopping, insider events and concerts, and guidance on must-see sights.
      • Get a jump: Let us know any specific questions or goals you have in mind when signing up for this tour, and we can personalize it even better – arriving with maps, info, suggestions, and answers pre-prepped for you.
      About This Edinburgh Tour

No doubt you'll have Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Arthur's Seat, and a bunch of other marquee attractions on your hit-list, but a visit to Edinburgh can be so much more than the sum of its landmarks.

The key to really experiencing this enchanting capital is to unlock some of its lesser known secrets. Like which classic whisky bar sports the best selection of single-malts. Which restaurants cook up the most authentic haggis (don't let its reputation fool you, this Scottish national dish is tasty) or the spiciest Indian fare. The scenic hilltop vantage points, the most fabled cemeteries, the backstory about how Old Town and New Town were first connected by bridges now buried deep under city blocks. Etc.
And the only practical way to find all that out, and more, is to 1) move here for awhile, or 2) book a private Welcome to Edinburgh orientation confab and fill your reservoir of local knowledge from a docent who's been around not just the block your staying on, but nearly every other block, alley, "wynd", nook, and moss-encrusted cranny Edinburgh has to offer.
After this, you'll be ready to take E'burgh on with a new understanding of the lay of the land, the customs of its natives, smart sightseeing routes and transport options, and a clear plan of attack for tackling its famously long list of must-sees (and woolen boutiques!).
You may even know where the city's nickname Auld Reekie came from. The answer isn't appealing, but modern day Edinburgh totally is.
