About This Piran Tour
Soviet oppression kept Slovenia hidden behind the Iron Curtain for most of the 20th century – not a happy experience at the time, but one that had the unintended advantage of keeping this Adriatic paradise something of a secret, unspoiled by masses of tourists. So ... thanks, Communism!
Your Slovenian adventure includes all the vibrant colors and commotion of the capital city, Ljubljana, plus the breathtaking scenery of the Istrian peninsula. With its towering mountains, rolling valleys, and dense forests, there are all kinds of treasures to be seen.
And yet in the span of a single day you'll come to appreciate one of the true treasures of Slovenia: its people. You'll experience their warmth and hospitality as they welcome you with open arms to a charming Istrian village. There, you'll savor dishes perfected over generations, and sample fresh and wholesome pies, juices, and wines – all produced locally.
It's enough to make you happy that the curtain was pulled back on the nature, culture, and flavor of such an incredible place.
Escape through the hidden river
Greek mythology holds that Jason and the Argonauts, having stolen the magical Golden Fleece from King Aeetes, attempted to evade capture by hoisting their ship onto their shoulders and carrying it across the Istrian peninsula. When this failed, the Slovenian countryside saved them: They disappeared underground and sailed to the Adriatic on a subterranean river.
