Before the micro light experience can commence, you will be briefed about what to expect when you take to the air. It’s definitely worth packing your camera in your bag for this tour, because the bird’s-eye view will be mesmerizing. As you get strapped in and take flight, the Aegean Sea will move farther out of view, allowing you to absorb the coastal landscape in all its glory.

Considered an arm of the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea connects to the Black Sea and Marmara Sea via the Dardanelles and Bosphorus Straits. Your attention will be drawn to the islands that are speckled around the turquoise waters, many of which are volcanic and jagged. The sea covers over 82,000 square miles and the majority of its islands belong to Greece.

The air tour adventure isn’t all about taking in natural views of the archipelagos that emerge from the Aegean Sea, but there also will be an element of history to the experience. The Virgin Mary’s last known residence can be seen from a great distance. Constructed entirely from stone, it is well preserved and is also acknowledged for its closeness to the ancient city of Ephesus.

Founded in the 10th century BC as an Attic-Ionian colony, Ephesus is home to a number of architecturally important structures. Examples of old-age architecture you can see during your micro light tour include the Turkish farming town of Selçuk and the Basilica of St. John, which was built in the 6th century. You’ll simply love the history and scenery on this popular tour!

How the Aegean Sea Once Protected the Greeks

With mountains on one side and a sea on the other, the people of ancient Greece didn’t have to fret about potential attacks. The coastline acted as a form of protection. Not only this, but the many coves proved perfect for sea ports, allowing the locals to earn a comfortable living by means of seafaring and trade. Furthermore, the number of fish species swimming through the Aegean Sea exceeds 700; therefore, people living in the Kusadasi region never went hungry. However, with numerous shark species slicing through the waves, the locals would heed caution when attempting to reel in something big for dinner!
