About this Marmaris tour
Your day tour begins with a brief stop for breakfast. Enjoy a wide selection of teas, coffees, cheese, olives and eggs.
On your way to the enchanting attractions of Pamukkale and Hierapolis, stop at a carpet center for a brief lesson about Turkey’s world-famous woven carpets. You can purchase some refreshments before continuing with the approximate one-hour journey to Pamukkale.
Pamukkale means “cotton castle” in Turkish. At the natural site, you will be amazed by the natural beauty of the terraces of carbonate minerals left by flowing water. The cascading pools, formed hundreds of years ago by calcium deposits, flow down over 650 feet.
After spending the day exploring the travertine, have lunch at a local restaurant.
Arrive at the ancient Greco-Roman city of Hierapolis, built around 190 BC. Located on hot springs that have been used as a spa since the 2nd century BC with many patrons retiring or dying there. Its ruins are adjacent to modern Pamukkale. Stroll the transfixing grounds and view the great baths, library and gymnasium.
In the afternoon, maybe take some time to swim in the antique Cleopatra pools, for an extra cost. The waters are clear and inviting. The hot natural springs are relaxing. There are also pillars you can just sit on if you don’t want to swim. The pools are heated by geothermal activity and have been attracting people for hundreds of years. You will love the minerals and bubbling effect of the pools. Pack your swimwear if you would like to swim in the hot waters of Cleopatra springs.
Greco-Roman Influence in Hierapolis
While Turkey is known for its predominant Arab culture, the country has a rich history with ancient Greece and Rome. The islands near Marmaris honor the relationship between Queen Cleopatra and Marc Anthony. The thermal waters of Cleopatra are just a few of the places that solidify the Greco-Roman influence in the country.
Pick-up is included from select hotels. Please specify your hotel name and location during check-out. Please meet in the lobby at least 15 minutes before your designated tour time with a printed copy of your voucher.
There is an option for a swim in the thermal waters of Cleopatra's Pool (additional charge), so pack accordingly with swimwear, towel, and water shoes.
