About this Ashdod Tour
The prophet Jeremiah talks about searching the streets of Jerusalem for just one person who seeks the truth, so the city may be spared. Your visit is only slightly less weighty – you're here to seek your own version of the truth.
Holy to Christians, Jews, and Muslims, Jerusalem offers an extraordinary amount of sacred and historic sites. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Western Wall, and the Dome of the Rock are places of reverence and enlightenment, worship and atonement, for billions of people.
Exploring on your own means you can see exactly what you want to see. Your GoBe guide will give you a helpful orientation before you head off on your own, along with specific instructions on where and when to meet for the return trip.
In between, you'll have about five hours to walk the Via Dolorosa and examine all 14 Stations of the Cross; visit the Wailing Wall, last remnant of the Second Temple;see the statue of the Virgin Mary "asleep" at the Church of the Dormition; or examine the stone coffin brought by 12th century Crusaders to honor King David's Tomb (even if he isn't really buried there).
Old Jerusalem covers just over a third of a square mile, and Mount Zion is right outside the city walls. So it's not a difficult task to go in search of what matters most: your own understanding of the truth.
That's why they call it faith
In Jerusalem, agreement on anything requires divine intervention. Case in point: the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It's been considered the site of Christ's crucifixion and entombment for almost 17 centuries – unless you're British and Protestant, in which case you may believe Christ died and was resurrected outside the city walls, as described in the New Testament, at the Garden Tomb. It's one-third of a mile due north of the church on Nablus Road. Which some people call Derech Shechem Road.
On a cruise ship? Meet your guide on the pier, in front of the ship. Please look for the GoBe Representative holding our logo sign with your name. Staying at a hotel? Be sure to advise the GoTo Crew so we can meet you in the lobby.
Inside the gates of the Old City the stone paths/steps have been polished after centuries of foot traffic. Rubber soled shoes are the suggested to avoid a slip or fall.
Plan to walk for a total distance of about 2 miles, over paved/gravel/cobblestone paths and up steps. If your mobility is limited, this tour will be too challenging for you to enjoy. It is not wheelchair accessible.
