About this Haifa tour
Explore the heart of the ancient and beautiful Galilee region on a comfortable guided bus tour. Departing from Haifa, take in your first spectacular view of the day from atop Mount Carmel, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. You'll then head to Zippori National Park, whose Talmudic ruins include a partially restored 4,500-seat Roman theater with sweeping views of the Galilee Mountains and the Bet Netofa Valley. Zippori is also home to famed mosaics, including the haunting "Mona Lisa of the Galilee," an evocative fifth-century synagogue floor, and the Nile Mosaic.
Departing Zippori, your bus will make its way toward the Sea of Galilee and Tiberias, established in 20 A.D. and named in honor of Roman Emperor Tiberius. You'll stop at a kibbutz, where your guide will explain the concept and everyday lifestyle of these fascinating collective communities. After a relaxing lunch, the afternoon segment of your tour includes a stop at Yardenit, where the Jordan River leaves the Sea of Galilee.
Catch your breath and soak up more fabulous views as you ascend the Golan Heights and pass Hamat Gader, the famed multinational point where the borders of Syria, Jordan, and Israel come together. From this vantage point, you'll want your camera ready to capture the vistas of the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan Valley, and Northern Galilee. You'll finish the day with a drive along the shores of the Sea of Galilee and a visit to Capernaum, a fishing village where, according to Biblical tradition, Jesus taught in the synagogue on the Sabbath.
Israel is home to some 270 kibbutzim, which are collective communities that were traditionally based around agricultural production. The first kibbutzim, established in the early 20th century, were based on the ideals of utopianism, which called for the establishment of "perfect societies" based on strong community coherence and mutual respect. Today, kibbutzim have developed to support successful factories and farms, which account for nearly 10 percent of Israel's industrial output and 40 percent of its agricultural output.
