      ABOUT THIS COZUMEL TOUR

Discover Cozumel’s most enigmatic underwater cenotes in the Riviera Maya! The Sistema Sac Actun is an underwater cave system with a depth of 101.2 meters and is stretched across the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán peninsula.

To reach the wondrous caves, you will need to take a quick 45-minute ferry ride to Playa del Carmen from which you will board your ground transportation to the caves. On the ferry ride, you will enjoy an educational tour, from one of our comical tour guides, who will provide information on the natural wonder that you are about to see.

Upon reaching Sac Actun, you will feel as if you are in a dream once you feast your eyes on the grandiose limestone rocks. The majestic beauty of the stalactites and stalagmites stem back nearly 65 million years. You will also have the chance to dive through Sac Actun’s flowing river, considered the longest underground river in the world. The glistening turquoise waters are home to catfish, crayfish and giant shrimp among other species.

As you enjoy a light snack on the ride back to Cozumel, you’ll be amazed at how different the Maya underworld is from the sunny tourist attractions you see above ground. Tourists who have visited these magnificent caves express a sense of spiritual awakening and otherworldly experience, and who can blame them? Sac Actun is one of the most famous cave attractions in the world for a reason, and you will certainly want to see it for yourself.

      As White as a Ghost

Derived from Mayan language, “Sistema Sac Actun” translates to “white cave system”. The Maya regarded these caves as sacred, and according to ancient legend, believed that Sac Actun was a gateway that dead souls would pass through to new dimensions across the underground river.
