ABOUT THIS COZUMEL TOUR
No doubt you will be humming to the Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” with this bright and fun excursion to the Tulum Maya ruins. Still quite untouched by modern civilization, this ancient Maya city faces the sunrise and is rich-filled with old world history stemming back to the 13th century. To reach the Tulum Maya ruins, you will first depart from Cozumel and embark on a short 45-minute ferry ride to the beautiful coastal resort of Playa del Carmen. While on the ferry, you will listen to an educational, guided tour on Maya history and culture.
Once reaching Playa del Carmen, and undoubtedly more knowledgeable on Maya history, you will board a small boat that will lead you right into the Maya Ruins for a truly memorable and picture-worthy view, so have your camera ready! As if this beautiful landscape weren’t enough, you will then submerge yourself on an underwater snorkeling adventure in the Great Maya Reef, the second largest coral reef on Earth stretching over 620 miles long. Here, you will come across 65 species of coral, 350 species of mollusk, 500 species of fish, seat turtles and so much more!
After swimming with the fish, stingrays, and if you are lucky, sea turtles, it will be time to head back to Playa del Carmen and finally, Cozumel. Surely with all the exploring and swimming, you will work up an appetite, but no worries, after feeding your adventurous spirit we will feed your stomach with scrumptious snacks.
The More the Merrier
Though now visited by a plethora of people each year, between 1200 A.D. and 1500 A.D. Tulum housed no more than 1,000 to 6,000 residents total. The site was abandoned by the late 1500s as the majority of its residents were plagued by disease.
