La Bufadora: The Legend of the Baby Whale

Locals believe that the huge water sprouting from the La Bufadora is the work of a baby whale. Legend has it that long ago, a whaling community lived in the area. The community took advantage of the whales’ migration from the cold waters of the north to the warm southern parts. One day, a baby whale got lost and took refuge in a cave. Overnight, the whale grew and by morning was stuck inside the cave because it was too huge to come out. The frequent gushing of the water from the ground are thought to be the desperate calls for help of the giant baby whale.
