About This Anchorage Tour
Become part of Alaska’s history and culture on this tour. Learn about the state’s first settlers and the traditions they left behind. View artifacts, visit antique cottages, and admire significant monuments on site.
As you stroll through the Native Heritage Center, explore the Hall of Cultures. This section provides exhibits featuring the five major culture groups in Alaska. Then, continue the tour towards the outside of the facility for a guided walk around Lake Tiulana. Stroll through six authentic life-sized native dwellings to learn about the traditions of ancient settlers such as the Athabascan, Inupiaq, Aleut, Alutiiq, and Tsimshian tribe.
This cultural experience is sure to be memorable as you learn about five major culture groups in one site. Along the tour you’ll have some of the best photo opportunities so don’t forget to bring a camera on this experience. In addition, you’ll also get a comprehensive explanation about the different artifacts used by each tribe and learn about their use. This tour will then wrap up with a film presentation and a traditional cup of tea in the theater room. Before returning to your hotel, you may enjoy shopping for souvenirs and other memorabilia at the gift shop on site.

Please be prepared to be outdoors for 1.5 - 2 hours. Dress in layers and don’t forget your winter boots, hat, and gloves.
You must be able to step into and out of the mini coach touring vehicle and be able to walk approximately 0.25 miles on a trail where there may be snow. Flat walking snowshoes will be provided, if needed.
