About This Anchorage Tour
Travel back in time and into the Gold Rush Era on this tour. Visit Crow Creek Mine’s site and view authentic mining equipment used in ancient times. Then, experience searching for gold the old-fashioned way, as they did during the 19th century.
Begin this experience by traveling from Anchorage towards Girdwood aboard a comfortable van. Snacks and bottled water will be available aboard the ride. You’ll travel through a National Scenic Highway known as Turnagain Arm. Make sure to bring a camera along this tour to capture some of the best picture-perfect moments
As you arrive at Girdwood, your tour guide will take the back roads up to Crow Creek Road, towards Crow Creek Mine. Here you’ll have a chance to see historic buildings, miner cabins, and equipment from the old days that was once used in the old hydraulic placer mine. Then, experience a scenic walk through the gardens on site and towards a nearby creek.
Once at the creek, you’ll have the opportunity to experience searching for gold the old-fashioned way. Your guide will teach you how Alaskans have panned for gold since the early days of the first Gold Rush. Keep your eyes peeled for some glimmering gold at the bottom of your bucket. If you’re wishing to speed up the hunt, you may rent a sluice box on site and use it to find gold faster! After this unique experience, enjoy a ride back to Anchorage.
