      About This Anchorage Tour

Experience a unique activity favorite amongst the locals on this full-day tour. After being picked up from your hotel, begin your adventure with a scenic drive from downtown Anchorage towards the Matanuska Glacier. This frozen, 27-mile long river of ancient ice is a massive glacier tucked on the tip of the Matanuska Valley. It is also the largest glacier in the United States accessible by car. Along the ride you’ll be provided with complimentary snacks and water.

Once at the glacier, enjoy trekking along the ice for about two hours accompanied by a highly experienced guide. During the tour, you’ll learn all about this thousand-year-old ice sheet and how it shaped the landscape of the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. As you travel along the glacier, you’ll also view blue meltwater pools and interesting ice formations.

In order to bring you the best and safest experience possible, you’ll be provided with helmets, a walking stick, and spikes that attach to your shoes. Remember to wear sturdy footwear and plenty of layers to resist the chilly weather. During the trek, your shoes may get partially covered with glacial flour. The powdery substance are finely ground rocks that the glacier creates. After your experience on the ice, enjoy a scenic lunch overlooking the Matanuska glacier.
