What better way to marvel at Alaska’s gorgeous, rugged scenery than by rail? Board your luxury dome rail car at the depot in Denali National Park and Preserve for the approximate 4.5-hour journey on the Denali Star route through backcountry to the quaint town of Talkeetna. During the ride you’ll enjoy Alaska’s renowned landscapes, including the Talkeetna Mountains, Alaska Range, Broad Pass and the Nenana, Susitna and Indian Rivers. Along the way you will also travel over Hurricane Gulch on its namesake bridge, which at 914 feet long and 296 feet above the creek below offers a postcard-worthy sight. Weather permitting, you may even catch sight of Denali, the tallest mountain in North America.
The 360-degree views from the dome rail cars as well as the small outside viewing platform ensure you witness the wild, natural scenery from every vantage point. Perhaps you’ll see some local wildlife, or even towering Denali. Your experience is enhanced by knowledgeable guides who will share the history of the region.
The comfortable, luxury rail cars offer first-class dining and bar service as well (additional cost), so you may enjoy a meal or drink as you take in the breathtaking views of Alaska’s interior.
