About this Icy Strait Point, Alaska tour
From zero to sixty in ninety seconds! Can you take your leap of faith? When you do, you'll be rewarded with an experience that is as close to flying as humanly possible. That's how it feels to zip above the treetops on the largest, longest zip rider in the world.
This is more than an exciting ride. Your adventure begins when you get on board for the ride to the top the mountain. Your driver may point out whales and other marine life on the first part of the trip, and then you're passing through deep forest that's home to coastal brown bears. Just the chance of seeing one of these mighty creatures is a kick.
The ultimate adventure is at the top. ZipRiders who don't lose their nerve (and most don't, thanks to encouraging words from the crew) fly out and over a cliff. Before you is the panorama of Port Frederick and surrounding islands, racing 300 feet below is the dense forest canopy, and Icy Strait Point grows larger and larger as you near the bottom. After 90 breathless seconds you're back on earth on the beach.
"That was the coolest thing I've ever done in my life!" That's what riders exclaim when it's all over. (Don't forget to pick up your photo to prove your coolness.) You now know the amazing difference between standing on the edge of something beautiful and actually plunging right into it. What are you waiting for?
Zippy facts and figures
On its busiest day, over 500 fearless flyers rode the ZipRider. Several people over 90 years old have braved it. And dozens have returned for the thrill of doing it again. There have been several wedding proposals at the top before the ride, and several proposals after the ride at the bottom. (Go figure.) But the ZipRider's own tower chief beats all records. He personally has over 1,000 rides so far – that's more than 25 thrilling hours!
