      What's in a name?

Although the city of Juneau is named after prospector Joe Juneau, it was Tlingit Chief Kowee who should probably be credited with one of the most significant American gold discoveries. Besides the fact that Juneau and his partner, Richard Harris, were known for trading their provisions with the natives for hoochinoo, or homebrew, it was Chief Kowee who pointed them in the right direction – leading them straight to the gold!
