From (USD) $55 Per Adult / $41 Per Child
      Highlights
      • Macaulay Salmon Hatchery: Ladd Macaulay's vision comes alive on your tour of the hatchery's awesome aquarium and touch tanks featuring over 100 local species. Learn how the hatchery enhances stocks of wild Alaskan salmon.
      • Mendenhall Glacier: Stretching 12 miles tall, this mammoth block of ice is one of Juneau's most popular attractions. Nestled among jagged peaks, rushing water and the lush rain forest, this river of ice terminates on the far side of Mendenhall Lake. Spend your time at the glacier watching for bears during the salmon spawning season, talking to National Park Service Rangers inside the visitor's center, viewing informative exhibits or walking out to the photo point.
      • Gastineau Channel: Your return drive back to town travels along along the Gastineau channel where you might see Alaska's Bald Eagles in flight searching for salmon.
      About this Juneau, Alaska tour

It was gold that spurred the birth of Juneau, named after one of the pioneers that came searching for Juneau's treasures at the end of the 19th century. Joe Juneau didn't quite know where to find his gold, but luckily a benevolent Chieftain pointed him in the right direction.

He set off with his partner along the Gastineau Channel, striking it rich with a mine on its shore. And while Joe Juneau's mine has long been shuttered, another Alaskan great struck some gold of his own here, too – Ladd Macaulay discovered a new way to breed salmon out of Juneau's old mineshaft, revitalizing Alaska's salmon fishing economy and creating a new "gold rush" in the process.

And while the literal gold may be gone from Gastineau today, Mendenhall Glacier shines bright like a diamond: it towers 12 miles high over a prehistoric ice field, with a majestic beauty you'll want to see with your own eyes.

This behemoth is moving at a glacial pace - the ice edges carefully forward just a few feet every day. A 3,000-year old remnant of Alaska's chilly past, Mendenhall will probably be around for a while longer, but you might want to hurry to explore her icy world. Roam freely in the Mendenhall Glacier visitor's center, and do make sure you take your time.

      Petting zoo

While salmon is the main attraction at Macaulay, be prepared to see over 100 species of local marine life in the hatchery's massive aquarium and touch-tank displays, where you'll have a chance to interact with these colorful sea creatures.
