Hold on for five miles of pure exhilaration! The crystal-clear Mendenhall River is the perfect experience for first-time rafters and families — and there's enough whitewater to quicken the pulse of seasoned rafters too.

You'll glide across the iceberg-studded lake and marvel at the magnificent 0.5-mile-wide Mendenhall Glacier. For thousands of years, this massive cube of ice has been waiting to make your day. It's a glorious backdrop for your adventure, and its abundant runoff is the source of the cool, clear currents you'll navigate. Let's set a course downstream and see what's ahead.

You soon hear the rush of water approaching. Then you're in the playful rapids where your raft splashes through bouncing waves. Enjoy the ride as your skilled guide works in perfect harmony with the water. And smile! There's a photographer on shore to capture your ear-to-ear grin as you bob through the thrilling currents.

You'll encounter river features such as Moon Flats and Pin Ball Alley (even more fun than they sound). Where the river levels out, calm spots give you a chance to soak it all in. The song of the river. Mountains reaching to the sky. Eagles soaring high. Wild creatures on the shore. Along this special stretch of river, nature shares some of her very best work.

      You're rafting in style

Something about river rafting makes everyone feel a bit like a pioneer. And in Alaska there's an authentic reason for that. During the gold rush, thousands of would-be miners built primitive, rough-hewn wood rafts to carry them and their gear 500 miles up the Yukon River to gold country. In 1898, when the ice melted, more than 7,000 craft took to the river within 48 hours! Enjoy the crowd-free Mendenhall and your comfy modern raft.
