About this Kailua-Kona, Hawaii tour
Weighing in at around 80,000 lbs. and three or four sedan-lengths long, the Humpback whale is a massive creature that is instantly recognizable in any ocean.
One of the biggest mammals in the world seeks out the warm waters around Hawaii during the winter for the same reason many other mammals do: breeding. Mothers who are nursing their young also prefer the hotter climate.
From the safety of your agile Zodiac boat, you'll get closer than you ever have to these massive sea creatures. Be sure to dress appropriately and prepare yourself to get a little wet: If you thought your local waterpark could make a splash, you won't believe what a 15-foot whale fin can do.
Here on the Kona Coast you'll also get to enjoy Mother Nature's beauty, literally forged from the flames of history. The flow of fiery magma created interesting sea caves and rock formations along the coast of the Big Island, and your Zodiac craft is the perfect way to navigate around and through them for an experience like no other.
A whale of a performance
Male humpback whales are known for their distinctive songs, which researchers believe are used for mating. An individual humpback song consists of a complex series of moans and howls, can last as long as 20 minutes, and is often repeated by the whale for hours on end. Now that's an encore!
Please make your way to the Captain Zodiac office in Honokohau Marina to meet your guide. Provide a printed copy of your voucher.
