      About this Ketchikan, Alaska tour

Step aboard one of the fastest sightseeing vessels in Alaska and speed your way to "the Mistys," as the fjords are affectionately called by locals. Our swift boat covers more scenic beauty than you can imagine. Naturally we'll slow down at the very best spots for photo ops and to see the amazing wildlife up close.

John Muir, America's great naturalist, came here in the late 1800s. Like you, he was seeking glaciers, adventure, and the awesome beauty of Alaska. (Unlike you, he had to explore at a time-consuming pace, relying on local Tlingit guides.) Intrigued by the then-young science of glaciology, Muir had a theory that his beloved Yosemite Valley had been carved by ice long ago. So he came to see glaciers in action and verify his theory.

It was Muir who called the area we'll tour the "Yosemite of the North." It's an apt way to capture the wonder of its icy blue lakes, towering cliffs, waterfalls, snowcapped peaks, and glacial valleys. Muir was also inspired to write Travels in Alaska, a journal that expresses his exuberance for life and enthusiasm for Alaska's glaciers, rivers, and rain forests.

This wilderness was a spiritual tonic for Muir, and he had the experience of time standing still as he gazed at the grandeur around him. You'll know exactly what he felt. After this GoBe experience you’ll be able to say you’ve lived Travels in Alaska for yourself.

      Fire and ice

Although carved by glaciers, Misty Fjords has felt fire and heat. Your boat will slow at New Eddystone Rock, an immense spire rising from calm waters. This towering basalt pillar was formed at a volcanic vent where magma rose to the surface, cooled, and was then eroded by glaciers. This symbol of endurance against the ice now welcomes visitors to Misty Fjords. That's quite a welcome sign – it took about five million years to make it.
