      • Alaska bottom fishing: Let our experienced guide show your private group how to hook hefty rockfish, cod, and halibut that lie up to 300 feet below the surface. Keep an eye out for bald eagles, humpback whales, and porpoises.
      • Making camp: Swap fish stories by the fire while your catch is cleaned and filleted. Explore the old-growth rainforest or take a walk along the rocky beach.
      • Dining in the wild: The camp's gourmet chef will prepare your catch at a private wilderness campsite and serve it over Yukon gold potatoes, with blueberry-rhubarb bread pudding for dessert.
      About This Ketchikan Tour

Call it the fishing trip of a lifetime. You and your own group bottom fishing off the coast of Alaska on a 24-foot Raider Pro Fisherman cabin cruiser. With an experienced captain who knows what fish are biting, where, and how to make sure it's your hook they're biting.

Your boat is outfitted specifically for fishing in the waters off Ketchikan. The back deck provides ample room for every angler to fish comfortably. And its 225 hp Honda motor will get you the fishing grounds fast, so you have more time to take on the burly bottom-dwellers your hunting for.

You'll be fishing primarily for rockfish, lingcod and halibut – tasty, but tough to land. We'll provide full rain gear, wool socks, boots, hat, gloves, a one-day Alaska fishing license ($20), and rod and reel.

When the fishing is done, we'll head for our island wilderness campsite, where we'll get a fire and some coffee going while the day's catch is prepared for our chef's signature bouillabaisse.

Come to think of it, perhaps it's wrong to call this the fishing trip of a lifetime. Because once you do it, you'll want to do it again.

      Going deep

Alaska bottom fishing can easily reach depths of 300 feet or more. The seabed is rocky and irregular – your jig can drift a mere three feet and suddenly drop 50. So the way to catch bottom fish is to find the bottom, reel up a couple of cranks, jig a few times, find bottom again and repeat. Never drag your jig – if you do, you'll hook a rock. And that's a drag.
