      Island Tour with Air Adventures

      Key West, Florida, USA
      From (USD) $100 Per Person
      • Helicopter: Your bird is a Robinson R-44 light helicopter, built for performance, maneuverability, and panoramic views of the island from any seat in the cabin.
      • Key West from above: Check out Smathers Beach, Fort Zachary Taylor, Mallory Square, Wisteria Island, and Duval Street from hundreds of feet up, a view usually reserved for drones and birds of paradise.
      • Narration: Your expert pilot is FAA-certified with over 500 hours of flight time, providing background on the sights you're seeing. It's a great island orientation from above.

      About This Key West Tour

You feel a slight jolt as your helicopter lurches skyward, ascending until the green and pale concrete of the heliport becomes a blur below you. Your perspective gets wider and wider, until the edge of the island and the sprawling turquoise waters around it come into view.

Puffy white clouds dance above the horizon against a gorgeous sky. If you squint as you fly over Mallory Square, you can see pedestrians milling about, enjoying what they think is the best view on the island – but you know better.

Look out for the half-hexagon shape of historic Fort Zachary Taylor, built in 1866. During the Spanish-American War, the U.S. used it as a supply depot and defensive fortress, installing new guns and sending troops to fend off a Spanish attack that never came.

After a few minutes above this gorgeous slice of paradise, you'll have a better understanding of why they wanted to keep it safe.

      Paradise pronunciation lost

Key West's name doesn't totally originate from its western orientation, which is easier to see from above. The Spanish-speaking natives who settled here called it Cayo Hueso, meaning "western island." In the late 18th century, English-speaking colonists frequently mispronounced the name, inadvertently coining the permanent name of Key West by mistake.
