Kona Island Breeze Luau
Tour Participation Requirements
Mai Tai translates to good in Tahitian, and that’s the kind of time you will have at this traditional Hawaiian feast! Upon arrival, you are greeted with a traditional lei, and escorted to the activities area that features an open bar. Want to fit in a little more? Grab a cocktail and learn to hula or weave, or get a traditional tribal tattoo painted on your arm, while mingling getting to know the performers.
The stunning backdrop of passing fishing boats, paddlers in outrigger canoes, and the majestic Mount Hualalai set the tone for this family-friendly evening. The luau is set on the historic grounds of King Kamehameha's former estate. Get carried away as you feel the spirit of Aloha and become connected to the land and the grand history of the Islands.
You will know it is time for the feast to begin when the Royal Court arrives on the beach via canoe. When it's time to eat, a full spread of authentic luau cuisine is laid out before you. Choose from Kalua Pua'a (pork prepared in an underground oven), Lau Lau (beef wrapped in taro leaves and steamed), or Poi as your main dish, and then start loading up the sides. Choices include macaroni salad, fresh island fruits and vegetables, green salads, and coconut buttered sweet potatoes. Make sure to leave some room for the warm banana bread and chocolate cake.
As the sun sets and the torches are lit, Polynesian dancers take to the stage. Relax to a graceful Hawaiian hula, and watch as you observe the proper techniques for opening a coconut. Then, feel the power of the Fijian and Maori dances of war, before holding your breath as the courageous Samoan Fire Knife dancer closes the show. Good food, smooth cocktails, riveting entertainment and good times all around await you at the Island Breeze Luau.
The power of aloha
King Kamehameha is revered for uniting the people of the Hawaiian Islands; he instituted the "Law of the Splintered Paddle" keeping civilians safe during war and promoted a system of trade to cement Hawaii's independence. He was also known for his great power and strength in times of war. Perhaps this is why the same grounds that host the Spirit of Aloha in luau are the same to host the starting and finishing points of the annual Ironman World Championship Triathlon.
