About this Miami, Florida tour
If you had arrived in front of the Biltmore Hotel in the 1980s, you might have turned right back around. The legendary hotel was in a state of decay, a place for homeless stragglers and an eyesore on the otherwise prestigious city of Coral Gables.
It was a far cry from her the grandeur she'd once embodied as an icon of the Jazz Age and a gathering place for celebrities and debutantes. Her Grand Pool was the largest in the United States, and the Biltmore was the place to be for a tropical vacation down south.
Mobsters and crime bosses ran their rackets from here, and the Champagne flowed. But the era of elegance ended with World War II, and her postwar decline lasted four decades.
Beginning in 1987, the Biltmore got the makeover she needed, and the one-time hangout of gangsters roared back as a favorite corral for cocaine cowboys. But that too passed, but the glitz lived on. Today, the Biltmore endures as one of Miami's most iconic landmarks, a favorite backdrop for countless films and TV shows. She's also the location of choice for Cuban debutantes and their coming-out parties: Ask your tour guide why quinceañeras love the Biltmore.
Yes, you're gonna go his way
A city fueled by high rollers and celebrities has some rather opulent mansions to match its get-rich-or-die-trying lifestyle. Your tour includes views of Miami's priciest real estate - see the palatial estates of celebs like Matt Damon, Timbaland, or Lenny Kravitz, and see if you can catch them chilling out at home. (Neighbors say that Lenny likes to do that in the buff.)
