      About This Miami Tour

Everglades National Park, which runs from just south of Orlando to the tip of Florida, is one of the last great grasslands in the United States. A mix of wetlands, mangroves, rivers, and lakes, it's known for its diverse and abundant wildlife. But the Everglades are not immune to modern development (only part of it is federally protected) and, believe it or not, it's now half the size it once was.

Despite this, the Everglades remain one of our most biologically diverse and fascinating national parks. The largest subtropical wilderness in the country, it's home to a vast array of flora and fauna, as well as 23 threatened or endangered species that are at risk due to loss of habitat, including the Florida panther, the American crocodile and alligator, and the West Indian manatee.

On this guided excursion to the Everglades' Sawgrass Recreation Park, you'll see this wide wilderness expanse and learn about the Seminole Indians and wildlife that coexisted here. Catch a glimpse of the Florida alligator and other reptiles, and – if you're brave – volunteer to hold a baby alligator. Now is the time to see and learn about an ecosystem designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve before modern-day development steals your chance.

      See you later, alligator!

Since dinosaurs no longer roam the earth, crocodiles and alligators claim the title as largest of the living reptiles. And the Florida Everglades is the only place where the two coexist. While it can be challenging to tell them apart, crocodiles have a longer and narrower snout and are lighter in color than an alligator. Of course, your response is the same if you come across either one face to face: run!
