About This New York Tour
A boat tour around Manhattan is a rite of passage for the typical tourist. But this is not your typical tour. The difference starts when you arrive at Chelsea Piers on the west side of Manhattan. Step aboard the Manhattan, an elegant, climate-controlled vessel, and you'll be welcomed with a complimentary adult beverage, as well as light snacks, sodas, water, tea, and coffee as you start your voyage.
On this tour, you'll get a real insider's look at NYC that goes way beyond saying, "Look, there's the Statue of Liberty." Ever wonder what influenced the Art Deco designs on city buildings, or how the Woolworth Building was way ahead of its time? Our guides will explain in a way that both aficionados and neophytes can grasp.
You'll discover Manhattan's "Starchitecture" – that is, architecture created by famous names–like Frank Gehry's 8 Spruce Street. This 76-story Lower Manhattan residential tower is the biggest apartment building in the Americas, with a rippled facade and bold style. There's also the Standard Hotel on the High Line in the Meatpacking District, propped up by concrete piers 60 feet high, that will make you wonder how the building stays up.
On your voyage, you'll cruise up close to the Brooklyn Bridge and George Washington Bridge – both iconic marvels of engineering. You'll also pass by swing bridges like the Willis Avenue Bridge and the Spuyten Duyvil Bridge. When you step off the Manhattan, you'll be an architectural expert on the Big Apple!
A new "standard" in NYC exhibitionism
The Standard Hotel opened above New York City's High Line in 2009, where many thousands of tourists stroll by every day. This hip hotel has wall-to-ceiling windows where its guests can see the city – and where High Line tourists can see the guests get down and dirty! Those in the know make sure to stop and gawk at the nudity – and sometimes even the sexual activity – seen through those windows.
Please make your way to Chelsea Piers, Pier 62, W 22nd and Hudson River. Manhattan, NY 10011 to begin your adventure.
This tour is seasonal from mid-March through December. The Spuyten Duyvil train bridge may become inoperable and cannot open for us to pass through. There are no refunds for tours that cannot fully circumnavigate if we need to double back.
A minimal amount of walking is required. You must be able to get on and off the boat without assistance or with the aid of a traveling companion. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.
