LEGO® bricks were invented by a Danish toymaker named Ole Kirk Kristiansen back in 1958. The way the bricks locked together was so unique that the design was patented, which, ironically, has been unlocking kids' imaginations ever since. In order to accommodate the demand for all things LEGO, the first LEGOLAND Park was opened in Denmark in 1968, followed by parks in California and elsewhere.
Just try to get your fill of LEGOs here. Enter the Imagination Zone, where kids can build a racecar and then test it out against the competition. Or the Hero Factory, where they can build their own heroes based on missions that are beamed across the galaxy and across time. Or they can build and program computerized robots in LEGO Mindstorms®, ride the thrilling Technic roller coaster, or take the circular Bionicle Blaster for a wild spin.
When you're ready to try out your sea legs, head over to the SEA LIFE™ Aquarium, where kids can get nose-to-nose with some intriguing sea creatures (even if they don't have noses). Don't miss those adorable clownfish, the tiny seahorses, the stingrays that look like they're flying, the ink-spouting octopi, and more. Plus, you can pet a live sea star, howl at the moon jellyfish, and check out the reef sharks in the Lost City of Atlantis.
You can also learn about SEA LIFE™ Aquarium's conservation projects, including seahorse breeding (did you know it's the male that gives birth to those seahorse babies?), the rescue of seals, dolphins, and other marine animals, and providing permanent homes for disabled creatures that can no longer survive in the wild. You can "sea" it all here, learn a ton, exercise your imagination, and enjoy awesome family time, all in one fun-filled day.
The mini-changing of the guard
LEGOLAND's MiniLand USA is an awe-inspiring reproduction of seven areas of the United States, including New York, San Francisco, and the Las Vegas strip. Constructed from more than 20 million LEGO bricks at a 1:20 scale, the exhibit is always being refreshed, either with seasonal updates, repairs, or in the case of Washington, D.C., with mini-replicas of the real president and first lady after each presidential election.
