Your vessel is a fast, nimble, 13-foot mini-speedboat. Whether you've never driven a boat before or you regularly put sheets to the wind, a quick briefing and some information about your route is all you need to get started.
Then you're off. Press down on the throttle and a muffled roar escapes as your sleek craft glides into the bay, and there's a lot to see. You'll get panoramic views of the downtown skyline and Coronado Bridge, along with the historic ships docked at the Maritime Museum and mighty aircraft carriers.
All the while, your experienced guide will keep you smiling with clever narration on the important history of what you see around you. If you're looking to experience San Diego Bay in a new and exciting way, grab a first mate and take the helm.
Throwing a curve
You might notice that the Coronado Bridge curves outward instead of going straight across the water. It's the result of a conflict between Coronado officials and the U.S. Navy, which demanded 200 feet of clearance for its ships. To meet this requirement without making the bridge too steep for cars, engineers came up with the shape you see today.
