About this San Francisco, California tour
Give it points for efficiency: few cities offer what San Francisco does on a seven-by-seven mile square of land. This never-flat always-changing magical city by the bay is home to sourdough bread and Ghirardelli Chocolate, famous bridges and classic cable cars, Alamo Square's Painted Ladies and Russian Hill's crookedest street in the world.
The neighborhoods of San Francisco are as different as can be, flaunting their rich history and reveling in a perpetual photo op at every turn. There's the towering steel and quartz of the Transamerica Pyramid in the Financial District, the Victorian architecture of Haight-Asbury, the loud and colorful graffiti murals of the Mission District: In 15 miles, you'll see it all.
We'll explore some of San Francisco's most interesting neighborhoods: The good, the bad, and the ugly; the old and new; the who and how; the progressive and permissive, and the just plain weird. Like the different sections of the city, every GoBe guide has his or her own personality. The pace and vibe of your bike trip depends on your group. Each one is a special experience, the product of a moment in time something San Francisco has been for more than a century and a half.
As you cruise over, around, and under the top sights of San Fran on a bike, you will understand why Tony Bennett left his heart here. And after experiencing the quirky charm of Castro, the never-ending views at Alamo Square, and the relaxed bayside scenery at the Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco might just collect your heart, too.
Ironically, the anti-establishment's most famous crossroad was named after banker Henry Haight and Munroe Ashbury, a member of San Francisco's Board of Supervisors. Appropriately labeled "Hashbury" by the late Hunter S. Thompson, the area was home to the summer of love, the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and could have been the birthplace of tie-dyed T-shirts.
