About this San Francisco, California tour
When you think of the California Academy of Sciences, you may think of, well, science. Well, what about music? Or craft beer and specialty cocktails? Or interactive activities? That's what you'll find each Thursday night at the Academy during the after-hours NightLife events. This adults-only night, open to those over 21, is the hottest event on the San Francisco social calendar. It makes science mad fun.
Come see the complex transformed into a place to network, enjoy a cocktail and enjoy some good music. You'll delight in the variety of food and drink options. Listen to the hottest music around courtesy of DJs or live bands. Dance like nobody's watching. Have fun with your friends, or mingle with locals and visitors from around the world.
But it's not just about having fun. It's about science. Do-it-yourself crafts have a scientific edge to them. Each week, scientists and professors enlighten visitors on topics like outer space, anatomy, or the science of movement. Test your mettle in a scientific trivia contest. Or chill and watch one of the movies shown in the planetarium. Special programs vary, depending upon the season. No matter what it is, you'll have fun while you learn.
In addition, you'll have NightLife access to many of the Academy's coolest spots. This includes the planetarium, the rainforest, and the Whales: Giants of the Deep and Color of Life exhibits. Seeing these attractions after hours will put them in a whole new light, adding to your sense of awe and wonder.
Neil deGrasse Tyson loves the NightLife
Famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson narrates Dark Universe, one of the NightLife shows at the planetarium. Not only does Tyson have mad science skills, but he is also an accomplished dancer. He even won a national gold medal in Latin ballroom dancing when he attended the University of Texas at Austin. And, fittingly, he can do the moonwalk.
