Sunny Santa Barbara has its share of unique neighborhoods. But none as hip as the Funk Zone with its contemporary vibe fueled by artisans, winemakers, and chefs just this side of normal. Leading you through the Funk Zone is your guide, an expert on the city, its history and culture, and the affluent lifestyle that has captivated the nation. So if you have a question, go ahead and ask. You'll soon know Santa Barbara like your own hometown.

You can't say ""Santa Barbara"" and not immediately think vino. Enjoy the bounty of the Santa Ynez Valley at two local wine tasting rooms. Riverbench Vineyard brings the bubbles with their sparkling wines while the Deep Sea Tasting Room showcases Conway Family Wines with panoramic ocean views. If wine isn't your drink of choice, no problem. This tour also stops at Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. and Cutler's Artisan Spirits, Santa Barbara's first distillery since Prohibition.

This tour also blocks plenty of time for you to gorge yourself on some fun and funky foods. Munch on Mexican fare at Mony's Tacos, savor seafood at Santa Barbara Shellfish Company or feast on flatbreads at Lucky Penny. And try the ""crack"" (a name locals have lovingly given to the mind blowing salted caramels) at Koval Confections.

But before you clean your plate, make sure to photograph and add all those tempting little morsels to the vast collection of ""food porn"" on social media. You'll learn how to snap the perfect culinary pix during mini photography lessons given throughout the tour. You can also use your new skills to capture the scenic spots along the Funk Zone route as well. Far out, Man.

A Funk Zone by any other name

What is the origin of the Funk Zone's quirky moniker? Some folks chalk it up to the foul-smelling fish processing plants that have long since closed up shop. Others say it portrays the neighborhood's edgy industrial vibe. Turns out, the name was coined by a senior city planning official during a mid-1990s zoning initiative that was spearheaded to preserve a slice of Santa Barbara for artists being forced from the city by skyrocketing rents.
