This scenic river experience takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Tour the vast Alaskan wilderness on a serene float down the Taiya River. Your journey will begin with a comfortable 10-mile drive along the coast through the Dyea Valley passing by an old Gold Rush settlement. Keep your eyes peeled for different types of wildlife through your window including bald eagles and seals on the coast’s shoreline. Along the way, you will stop and see the beginning of the Chilkoot Trail, one of the top gold mining paths taken at the turn of the century.
When you arrive at the Taiya River, you will receive your safety equipment including a life jacket and rubber boots. It’s also important to be comfortable with multiple layers to stay warm. The waters of Taiya River are tranquil, so your floating experience will be a peaceful one.
This river is known for passing through multiple landscapes including alpine forests and rainforests. As you travel down this beautiful body of water, your guide will provide stories about the local wildlife and plants visible along the way. You will also learn more about the history of the Gold Rush that took place along the same riverbanks that you float by.
