      About this Washington DC tour

Grab your papers and equipment and get moving. Your contact should have made the drop by now, and you don't want to leave the package under the park bench. In the wrong hands, it could cause an international incident.

Keep an eye on your six. You're pretty sure you dispatched the last of the federation's goons in Prague, but you never know. Glance down at your watch for a time check – right on the money.

The old you is gone. You're a university student now, traveling to see new sights on break from classes. Or maybe you're a businessman, heading to Europe to close a deal.

That's what it says on your documents, at least. In reality, you're here on a high-stakes mission to retrieve critical information that your country needs. If the names on that list got out … you don't even want to think about the consequences.

"Hey. You there." You freeze for a moment at the voice behind you. You hear him click his Beretta's safety off. Guess you didn't get all the goons after all.

      A name for the birds

Ian Fleming, the English author who based James Bond on some of his own intelligence experiences, had an idea for spy novels filled with suspense, seduction, and exotic locales. But he wanted an average, "everyman" name indicative of the protagonist's status as a government instrument. Writing on the balcony of his Jamaican villa in 1953, he glanced at a bird-watching book by American ornithologist James Bond; thus was born the longest-running, most successful book/movie franchise in history.
