Travel back to a simpler time, when disputes weren't handled with sarcastic posts on social media but with sharpened steel on the field of honor. A time when virtuous maidens cheered valiant princes on thundering stallions. A time of pageantry and sumptuous feasts. A time when proving your manhood meant using your lance a lot.

It's the tale of King Phillip, a fair and benevolent ruler who wishes nothing but peace for his kingdom. But the king is also a family man: He has a special place in his heart for his fair daughter, Princess Leonore.

So when the Princess' betrothed is kidnapped by invaders, Phillip vows vengeance, summoning the most courageous knights in the realm to wreak royal retaliation.

Tonight, a champion will be crowned amid shattered lances, broken swords, and trampled shields. Who will prevail? Will the warrior priest triumph over the Blue Knight? Will lionhearted Lord Del Font be the first to unhorse Don Eduardo? Wizards will weave spells, but it's valor that wins out.

Marvel at swooping falcons and prancing steeds as blaring horns herald your hero's arrival: This is the battle royal, with the fate of kingdoms and princesses in the balance. So gulp down your mead and give a lusty roar, clapping with hands covered in food. This is the 11th century, and forks haven't been invented yet.

      A fork in medieval history

People in the Middle Ages actually did have rudimentary utensils. Everyone carried a knife, which was always brought to meals. Spoons, usually made of wood, were used with soup and gruel. Forks didn't become popular until well into the 1600s, and even then many people considered them to be a contemptible substitute for simply using your hands.
