      Auckland Adventure Jet Boat Ride

      Auckland, New Zealand
      From (USD) $71 Per Adult
      • High-adrenaline sightseeing: You'll see the skyline and key landmarks with full commentary, but don't expect a leisurely jaunt around the harbor. This acrobatic, waterborne joyride will spike your pulse rate and leave you breathless. And laughing. And damp.
      • Auckland's meanest machine: Fastest on these waters, the Jet flies along at 60-plus mph, yet can spin, turn, dance, and stop on a dime. Seating is grandstand-style, so everyone gets a great view – and a water poncho to help keep the sea spray out.
      • Scheduled stops: The action will pause for you to catch your breath (and epic scenery) at the Chelsea Sugar Factory, Kauri Point cliffs, and under the bungy-jumpers at the Harbor Bridge.
      About This Auckland Tour

This 30- to 40-minute slice of your life will be spent in zoom mode – aboard a purpose-built craft sporting souped-up Volvo engines and the latest Hamilton technology.

Who or what is Hamilton, you ask? Well, Bill Hamilton was the guy who pretty much invented the jet boat in 1954, right there in thrill-happy New Zealand. An engineer and avid outdoorsman, Hamilton's stroke of genius was to design a propulsion system that replaced the traditional spinning propeller with a jet stream of high-velocity water from a steerable nozzle just above the waterline.

The result was a whole new kind of boat that not only drew very little water and was far more agile than a normal watercraft – but went like a bat outta hell.

The technology quickly proved itself on the world stage as a trio of Hamilton jets became the first boats to navigate the full Colorado River and Grand Canyon. Soon after, plain old Bill Hamilton became Sir Charles William Hamilton – appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1961 for his services to engineering.

Fast-forward to today and the Auckland Adventure Jet, which combines the very latest in Hamilton ingenuity and KwikKraft hull-building expertise to power a harbor tour that will satisfy anyone's need for speed.

      Life in the fast lane

Born as the 20th century dawned, Bill Hamilton led the kind of nothing-is-impossible, adventurous life New Zealand is famous for. The sheep station he bought at age 21 became his engineering lab and proving ground. He built his own dam and hydroelectric turbines to power his house and workshops. He raced Bentleys and broke the Australian land speed record. He invented the jet boat, and founded a manufacturing company that still thrives. Plus, he smoked a pipe and rocked a beret. Way cool.
