About This Tauranga Tour
The kiwi may be New Zealand's official bird, but you can think of the sheep as its unofficial mammal. They outnumber humans by nine to one, with 19 different breeds raised at the Agrodome alone. And this Farm Tour brings you face to face with a number of them, and a parade of friendly farm animals as well.
Most people are taken in by the fluffiness of sheep, the gentleness of cows, and the innocence of deer. On this tour, you get to see these animals, and even feed them by hand. But that's not all.
You'll also see roaming llamas, emus, ostriches, and alpacas. And just like their fellow farm residents, these guys are equally friendly and eager to meet you, let you pet them, and eat from the palm of your hand.
Then the time comes for you to get some care and feeding, which happens at the organic fruit orchard. You'll be able to walk around, explore the grounds, and hear about organic farming methods. But the best part is getting a taste of farm-fresh honey and kiwifruit juice, harvested right there where you happen to be relaxing.
It's an hour of fun, facts, feeding, and fruit. Not a ba-aad way to experience New Zealand.
The llamas you see in your Farm Tour provide fiber that's lighter and warmer than the wool from sheep; the thinner yarn is ideal for fine dress garments. But the llamas also instinctively guard and protect the farm's sheep and other animals from predators. By nature, llamas are intelligent, adaptable, and particularly attentive to potential dangers. They're like bodyguards for the other animals.
