      About This Wellington Tour

Can you really save the world with chess pieces and parts from a Dyson vacuum?

Apparently, yes. At Weta Workshop's Thunderbirds Are Go Experience, you'll find out how masterful graphic designers, sculptors, and illustrators take their inspiration from everyday objects, including shaving blades, egg cartons, and vacuum hoses.

The items themselves are mundane, but what they inspire is anything but. Weta's effects experts take great pride in their work, from the fabric pattern used on the miniature sofas at headquarters to the color of the leaves in the island forests outside.

There you get to do more than observe. This experience is guided the whole way, meaning you'll get in-depth insights about the importance of each piece. Ever wonder how they create the inside of the Thunderbird 1 space ship? Curious about the sand used on the exotic islands and deserts where the show's heroes fight diabolical villains? Then you need to take this behind-the-scenes tour. You might not be saving the world with a vacuum hose any time soon, but at least you'll know how.

When designing a set gives you lemons...

Serious fans of the original 1965-66 Thunderbirds series will remember a classic Easter egg in the Thunderbird 1 hangar – a lemon squeezer on the wall, blending in with various other machine components. The team at Weta Workshop knew they had to continue the tradition for the show's reboot, but couldn't find the right squeezer – so they custom-made a large, fully functioning lemon juicer for the hangar wall.
