Cumbuco Beach & Dune Buggy Ride
Tour Participation Requirements
Special Medical Restriction
A good alternate name for this tour would be "The 180," because you get to combine two activities that are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
The first one, if you can call it an activity, is "vegging" – you know, kicking back and doing nothing but soak in some rays while you read a book or watch the surf. This is highly therapeutic. Same way it's good to reboot your computer from time to time, the human brain needs to recharge from time to time. Cumbuco Beach is ideal for that.
Think of it as solar power for human beings.
For the other activity, you have to listen to that little voice inside that keeps telling you "let's do something daring – something to get the blood pumping." And that's when you hop on a dune buggy, head out to the sand dunes, and tell the driver you want the kamikaze ride.
Opposite ends, see?
On one side, all the peace and tranquility you could possibly want, while relaxing on a tranquil, beautiful beach surrounded by coconut trees. On the other, a freewheeling adventure that'll make you realize the true value of shock absorbers.
So there you have it. The 180. Part mild, Part wild. All good.
The sand dunes at Cumbuco make for a wild ride, and are often described as "moving." Only strong, steady winds of at least 17 mph, which is the norm in Cumbuco, can create the effect: The wind-driven sand seems to jump an inch or two above the dune, giving the appearance that the dune's surface is constantly moving up toward the crest. If you stand barefoot on a Cumbuco dune, you're likely to feel the blowing sand stinging your ankles.
