About this Valparaiso tour
Even the oldest and most respected French wines, such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild, were once the new kids on the block. Today, the upstarts are not from Bordeaux or Burgundy, but from Chile's Casablanca Valley.
The wine industry here dates back to the 16th century, when the Spaniards arrived. In the 19th century, French varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carmenere were introduced. But it was in the 1980s that Chile had a renaissance in wine making, when vintners began planting in the rich soil of the Casablanca Valley.
But this tour isn't just about history; it's also about beauty, taste and fun, as you'll be visiting two vineyards that are causing a stir among wine lovers.
Emiliana prides itself in organic methods, with a meticulous devotion to both the quality of the wine and to respect for the environment that makes it possible.
Casas del Bosque is all about the consistency that experience brings to the art, having recruited four of the world's top wine-makers to create a unique character for each of the wines they produce, an endeavor that has earned them numerous awards.
For you, it all adds up to a taste of wines that are earning an international reputation, with one of the world's most spectacular panoramas as your backdrop: the Andes Mountains.
It's the attitude in the latitude
The Casablanca Valley is closer to the equator than any European vineyard, but its location allows the cooling Pacific Ocean to create the morning mist and denser cloud cover that makes viticulture possible. The result is a Mediterranean climate comparable to Northern California and Bordeaux, with summer morning temperatures averaging between 59 and 64 degrees Fahrenheit.
