It may be a common tourist destination, but La Calera does have a fairly unspoiled landscape, which you can admire as you weave along its roads for approximately 20 minutes. Its name is derived from Calera, which is a limestone mine. Surrounded by mountains, it boasts many viewpoints that look out onto BogotáSabana in the distance.

Once you have passed through this town in the Guavio Province, which was once inhabited by the Muisca people, the views you will witness from the high plateau are sure to take your breath away. Crossed by the Bogota River from its north side to its south side, the area is rich in agriculture and you can expect to see lots of cattle roaming the land.

Continue admiring the jaw-dropping views while you learn about agricultural practices and the local culture. You will also be lucky enough to feast on some traditional food, most of which will be prepared with ingredients sourced from the land. Salad, barbecued meat smothered in Colombian chorizo and authentic cuisine served in clay casing can be washed down with water, wine or juice before the team at the ranch will bring out the horses. This is your chance to learn about what is known as the “trot” breed.
